The Macoupin County Board is seeking to hire an Animal Control Administrator to ensure the efficient and effective administration of the Animal Control Department under the direction of the County Board. The ideal applicant will have a minimum of one year experience working in a kennel and ideally have a veterinarian’s tech degree. Salary range is $40,000 to $50,000. Benefits listed below.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
• One year experience of working in a shelter; experience in working with animals and have a passion for animal advocacy. To ensure safety, applicant must understand and apply skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperaments and know how to “read” animals
• Veterinarian’s Tech Degree a plus
• Ability to learn to perform all administrator duties as listed below
• Honest and ethical
• Good communication skills, detail oriented, ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and understand deadlines
• Supervisory experience preferred
• High School Diploma required; College or professional workplace experience a plus
Physical Qualifications:
• Must be able to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs. and able to be on your feet for long hours if needed.
• Must be able to handle large dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.
• Must be physically able to help with staff duties as needed: Kennel cleaning, restraining animals, etc
Macoupin County Animal Control Administrator Duties:
A. Care for any and all animals in the Animal Control Shelter.
B. Operate and maintain the Macoupin County Animal Control Shelter.
C. Enforce all animal control ordinances and statutes throughout the County including going on animal calls.
D. Supervise and train all department employees.
E. Supervise, direct and recruit volunteers.
F. Maintain all required records.
G. Comply with Freedom of Information Requests.
H. Develop and finalize an annual departmental budget.
I. Implement the County Budget and properly track and receipt all animal control revenue
J. Track and approve all Departmental expenditures.
K. Coordinate and assist with fund raising activities, which benefit the County Animal Control Shelter.
L. Perform any and all duties related to the Animal Control Department.
M. Abide by all state and federal laws and regulations, including those related to the operation and maintenance of the Animal Control facilities and handling of the animals.
N. Abide by all personnel policies implemented by the Macoupin County Board.
O. Work all hours required in the performance of the job.
P. Maintain monthly time reports, which shall be submitted to the County Clerk and the Macoupin County Board.
Q. Submit monthly reports to the County Board detailing the operations and expenditures of the Animal Control Department.
R. Complete Freedom of Information Act Officer Training (FOIA) and assume the duties of Freedom of Information Act Officer for the Animal Control Department.
S. Encourage adoptions and require staff & volunteers to do the same
T. Educate the community when needed.
U. Other duties as assigned.
