County Seeking Bids for Farmland Property North of Carlinville

The Macoupin County Board has approved a resolution declaring portions of the County-owned property at 21670 IL Route 4, Carlinville, IL 62626 as surplus property and authorizing a sealed bid process for the proposed sale.

The property is part of parcel 12-000-178-00 and includes three areas being offered for sale. Bidders may bid on just one piece or any combination of the three:

Approximately 2.48 acres near the far east property line and north of the creek. See that property here.
Approximately 5.5 acres in the southeast corner of the property, east of the creek. See that property here.
Approximately 10.97 acres consisting of the remaining farmground after the first two areas are split off. See that property here.

The minimum bid is $14,525 per acre, based on the average appraised value of the property. The appraisal is available for public inspection at the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office, 201 E. Main Street, Carlinville, Illinois, during regular business hours.

Sealed bids must be submitted to the Macoupin County Clerk’s Office, 201 E. Main Street, Carlinville, IL 62626, no later than close of business on July 21, 2026.

Bids will be opened by the County Board’s Economic Development Committee on July 28, 2026, in the County Board Room at the same address.

The County Board may consider the proposed purchase price as well as any positive economic impact to Macoupin County, including jobs created, taxes paid to the County, and other local economic benefits. The purchaser must use the property in a manner that results in the payment of real estate taxes to Macoupin County.

The property is currently used as farmground leased by the County. It is located in an unincorporated area of Macoupin County and is not subject to county zoning. The property will be available for use beginning December 1, 2026.

The County Board reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Any contract proposal accepted must be determined to be in the best interest of the County and approved by a two-thirds vote of the County Board.
